Emphysematous pyelonephritis (EPN) is a rare necrotizing and suppurative infection with relatively high mortality. It is generally observed in diabetic patients and is characterized by gas formation in intrarenal or perirenal regions. A medical history of diabetes, consciousness level, urinary obstruction, clinical picture of acute renal failure, and thrombocytopenia in EPN cases, as well as radiological imaging play a major role in determining the treatment method for these patients. Here we aimed to discuss the rapid response of a patient with EPN, who also had unconrolled diabetes and underlying chronic renal disease, to successful medical treatment.
